The Rookies!

What an amazing visit with Nana and Papa!

After arriving late Wednesday night, we gave them the cliff notes of "Evan Care 101" before heading off to work. I won't lie, I think Lisa and I texted/called about every hour. Not that Nana and Papa aren't 120% capable of watching E, but just that we had to transfer a lot of knowledge in a short amount of time. Of course, they did great (depsite nicknaming themselves 'The B Team')! They even let him watch the Giants beat the Reds to advance in the playoffs. To top it off, Nana completed a log for him:

My first day of training nana and papa went well. They weren't quite the rookies I feared they might be.  I had a little trouble convincing them I was hungry at 9:30 instead of sleepy but by 9:45 I had their attention.  I loved watching nana warm the bottle. I had a great nap after that, only 50 minutes but I woke up ready for the walk to Starbucks they promised. Papa got hungry on the way by Boston market so we stopped for lunch. The drumstick was my favorite (just kidding). I had my bottle right on time when we returned and again went to my crib for a nap. They didn't have to try any of the tricks daddy talked about...I just fell asleep on my own.  Then another walk with Cody and Bailey this time.  I played on the blanket and rolled over while I was waving and kicking.

We left for work on Friday without worry. For lunch, we all met up and got E's passport stuff turned in (we're going on a big family cruise over New Year's). He loved looking around the lady's office. That evening I tried making a pulled pork sandwich I learned from my cooking class. Not 100% as good as the teacher's, but 90% of the way there. Not bad for a rookie.

Early Saturday morning, goddaughter Gracie got dropped off. After her soccer game (they won!), we headed up to Roaring Camp outside of Scotts Valley for the day. I'd never been there, but it's this cool restored train depot from 1880 that still has a working steam engine line. We didn't ride the train, but they had a bunch of activities like building a scarecrow, pedal-tractor rides, petting zoo, and a BBQ with live music. The weather was perfect and we had such a great time. We were right outside Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, so we took a long walk through them. With all that fun we were thirsty, so we hit a winery on the way to BJ's for dinner. Exhausted, I feel asleep on the floor while Gracie watched a movie.

Sunday was a little more low-key. We met up with Gracie's mom, Leddee, for lunch and then spent the afternoon getting dinner ready for the family to watch Game 1 of the Giants vs. Cardinals. Oma and Opa got home from a weekend up in the Sierra foothills and we all chowed down. Nana and Papa left for home a little after lunch this morning...but it's not too long until we see them again in New Mexico for Thanksgiving!
