Gym Time!

E in Uncle Brian's old "bike helmet"

Last Friday, E had his 9 month check up. By the numbers:
  • Weight: 18 lbs, 14.5 oz.
  • Length: 28 inches
  • Head Circumference: 18.75 inches

Overall, the doctor thought he was a healthy and happy baby boy. She answered more of our million first-time-parent questions with the perfect amount of confidence and patience. Is it coming across how much I love this doctor? Especially the questions surrounding E's first fever that he got last week which came on very quickly on Tuesday night and vanished just as suddenly early Wednesday morning. He's got hints of having a cold, but nothing full blown. Some people swear babies' temperatures elevate while teething (and he's certainly doing that - big number four is about to cut), though the medical professionals are split on that truth. Either way, he went from slightly fussy to angry to dazed in my arms over the span of an hour. Luckily we got through it and merely called the hospital for advice rather than rushing him to the Emergency room as many new mommies and daddies do.

We celebrated the clean bill of health Friday night with a nice big dinner at a new restaurant. Saturday morning, we did a lot of stuff around the house. And FINALLY, the weather was just too nice to stay inside all the time, so E and I walked to Starbucks and Walgreens and just enjoyed the warmth after the previous chilly week. In the afternoon (and on Sunday afternoon too), we took E to baby gym class. He LOVED it. Some of his favorites:

  • Observing the other babies crawl around (though not crawling himself).
  • Sailing the rough seas on the teeter-totter boat.
  • All the hanging scarves.
  • And the best of all: Playing under the huge parachute as all the parents made it go up and down, up and down.

Oma and Opa came over after gym for leftover tamales and they helped us hang a shelf in E's room. We gave the lil'man his first couple of puff stars (strawberry & beet flavored) and, well, he wasn't so sure about it. But we know that he'll come around. After all, he didn't like oatmeal initially and now he can't live with out it (he takes after Opa, huh?)

Sunday morning hit Lisa and me a little hard because E had a fitful night (teething? cold? missing his mommy?) and we needed a fair share of coffee at breakfast with the family. E, of course, was the perfect baby...and didn't seem the least bit tired. Besides gym class, Sunday was filled with errands and house chores. We finished it off with dinner over at Oma/Opa's house with Auntie Janis and Uncle Ron.

And so here we are heading full steam into another week...and looking forward to Tante 'Ness and (soon-to-be) Uncle Tanner coming home from New Zealand!
