Six Years!

Sunday marked our sixth wedding anniversary and I think Lisa summed it up beautifully:
1st Year: Fancy Steakhouse
2nd Year: Musical in San Francisco
3rd Year: Caving in Belize
4th Year: Caribbean Cruise
5th Year: 2-week-old Baby
6th Year: Car Seat Shopping

Life just keeps getting better.
Quotes like these are just one of the plethora of reasons I married her. But a little more on our anniversary later.

One interesting E development: Last Wednesday, right after breakfast, Opa needed to shave so he plopped E down on the new potty seat (we know one-year-old is far too early, we got it so that he'd be used to seeing it around). Minutes later...they'd both finished their business! Needless to say, there was a string of amazed texts and conversations. We couldn't believe the luck...until the following day. On a whim, Opa repeated the post-breakfast process. Same results! Friday too. We tried it and succeeded at our house on Saturday and Sunday too. Monday and Tuesday, check. Seven DAYS of no dirty diapers! Don't get me wrong, we understand this isn't actually potty training, but still...it's cool. (My apologies to you and the future E for the picture, but I had to include it...)

We're slowly recovering from the big b-day party...finding space for all the new toys, washing the new clothes, taking down decorations, etc. Friday night, the three of us grabbed a quick hamburger (Five Guys, "mmmm," as E would say) and ran an errand or two. We've been having a little bit of a rough time with E's sleeping...or lack thereof...lately, so we decided to hit the sack early and watch the Giants game in bed.

Or at least we wanted to. Unfortunately, we've discovered baseball games seriously stress Cody out. In the past, we discovered that he found the random "OH!" and "YEAH!" distressing, but we've been careful to keep those at bay.  We were even careful during the nail-biter on Friday against the Padres, however, he just kept coming up and nudging my elbow, staring Lisa down, or trying to cuddle with Bailey. Concerned something was actually wrong, we turned off the game to do an assessment.  Seconds later, Cody flopped on his bed and went to sleep. *Sigh* Not a good trait for Cody to have developed in this family.  We're hoping that muting the game does the trick.

Saturday was jam-packed with chores, a walk to Starbucks, and Lisa's baking. E and I were both pooped by mid-morning so we took a nap while Mommy ran errands. After lunch, we dressed the big man in his best threads and got his one year portraits (they'll be posted once I get them--though a word of warning: for as smiley of a kiddo as he is, he was stone-faced-baby at the photo shoot. I mean, not a single flash of the teeth. Oh well, you can lead a horse to water...) For the afternoon/evening, we headed over to Uncle Ron's to celebrate Cousin Kevin's 25th with homemade Chinese food and hot tubbing. As usual, E loved the pool, as well as playing with the cousins and his God-sister, Gracie.

After church on Sunday, we had a pleasant breakfast with the family, Gracie, and her parents. Then I took E to baby gym. We met up with Lisa afterwards to pick out his big b-day present from us: a big boy car seat. That afternoon, while he napped, we did more stuff around the house. For dinner Oma/Opa watched E while we went to a new fancy restaurant...or we would have gone, if they were open on Sundays (oops, didn't check that one meager detail). Luckily, we were within walking distance of a favorite Italian place--so we made a quick pivot of plans and had a wonderful evening.

And guess what. As an anniversary present to his Mommy and Daddy, E had his best sleep in weeks...and so did we!
