We had a fantastic weekend!
Actually, the fun began on Thursday night when Cid came over for a few hours while Roger, Sarah, and Rowan went to a movie. E showed Cid all his toys, they ate a big dinner, had a milk chugging contest, and they even splashed around together in the tub.
Early Saturday morning we packed up the car and headed toward the Sierras. E slept the first couple of hours of the trip and demanded Mommy/Daddy sing to him for the latter half. Mid-afternoon we arrived at our rented cabin, just blocks away from the majestic alpine Donner Lake. The Balyons and Deckers had just arrived themselves. We picked rooms and got most of the kids napping before whipping out the wine. I'd brought a magnum (1.5 liters vs. the normal 0.75), thinking I'd impress everyone with the size of my bottle.
Roger, of course, had to upstage me with his mutant-sized, 4.5 liter, Costco monstrosity. Although Kris' regular bottle did seem even punier than mine. Once the kids woke up, we spent the rest of the time playing in the cabin and on the beautiful deck. E had a blast following Cid and Rowan around (his walking is getting better and better). For dinner, we made the most complicated take-out pizza order known to man. Once we got the kids to sleep, the adults sat back to leisurely watch...
The morning consisted of getting everyone fed and changed in time for the next nap. After that we all managed to get down to Donner Lake for a picnic. It's amazing how much coordination it takes to get 6 adults and 4 babies up the stairs...forget about out the door. Anyhow, we found a great shady spot on the West End Beach. E loved his appropriately sized camp chair that I had to get him. We ate, played in the sand, and the bravest of us (a.k.a. the Balyons) splashed around in the mountain water. Beached-out, we napped/relaxed the afternoon away back at our cabin. Kris grilled beef, turkey, AND bison burgers for dinner. For about an hour after the kiddos hit the sack, the adults watched bad TV, and then we headed to bed ourselves.
Lisa made crepes for breakfast as everyone started the long packing process. We'd been there two nights, but it looked like two years. By late morning we were ready to head home. Again E napped until Davis, which was a perfect lunch spot. We also visited a friend's baby boutique store while we were there. On the last stretch to the Bay Area, we made a coffee/pit stop at a shopping center that had a little carousel in the middle of the parking lot--although E was far more obsessed with pointing at every car in the whole lot.
We made it home in time for E to have a nice sleep and Mommy/Daddy to do chores before a low-key dinner at Oma and Opa's.
See, told ya: fantastic weekend!
