Friday, we all met at Oma/Opa's place mid-afternoon in an attempt to escape the Bay Area ahead of traffic, which meant that everyone else was too...so we got stuck in some serious gridlock. However, past Salinas, things opened up considerably and we checked into the SLO Embassy Suites for E's bedtime.
After a semi-long night (hey, new environment and all), we met with good friend Noni for breakfast and a tour of her new backyard. It was wonderful chatting with her and reliving all the good times we had when Lisa lived at her breathtaking house. The highlight, though, was giving her pup, Berg, some good pets. I sure do miss that dog.
Next stop was Oma's favorite location in all of SLO: The Apple Farm. We shopped, E napped, and we had a light lunch before heading back to the hotel. In the mad dash to get ready for Shane/Jackie's wedding, the Balyons showed up (they sure do clean up nice) to drop off their boys and pick us up. We wished Oma/Opa/Uncle Brian plenty of luck as we left E, Cid, and Rowan with them for the evening.
The wedding was out at a barn in Nipomo and absolutely flawless. The food, drinks, and crowd equally so. Such a beautiful, fun event...though we decided relieve the ever-patient babysitters before the party was officially over. We didn't need to worry though, everyone was happy when we got to the hotel (didn't hurt that the Giants clinched the NL Western Division title!). Exhausted, we all slept much better.
Side note: Evidently, Opa didn't quite have enough hands to break out the camera - which is why there's no physical evidence that they watched three boys under the age of two for several hours. But I vouch for them and assure you that they did an amazing job.
You've got to love the Embassy Suites breakfast. And we did with the Balyons before heading out to the Avila Barn (it was a very barn/farm themed weekend, quite by accident). They were in full Autumn mode with millions of pumpkins, tractor rides, and hay mazes. Before heading back north, we caught a quick lunch with Lisa's thesis advisor and his family and swung by the Apple Farm for another batch of fresh baked cookies.
Lil'E and Cid (who's already a roll-over champ) must've been talking this weekend, because E looks to be days away from flipping over from his back-to-tummy! Fingers crossed. Lil'E also discovered that his voice isn't so lil' and has been squealin' and squawkin' any time he gets really happy. Though we're starting to notice this is the "fun before the storm," a.k.a he's about to get really tired or hungry.
